7 Career Options After Being a Graduate in English Language

Do you love English language? Do you really like reading Shakespeare, Milton or Keats? Do you want to study English but unable to decide what career option can I choose after being a graduate in English Language? Here are your all answers.


In India, If a student chooses humanities aka arts as his/her stream in graduation, faces harsh criticism. Indian parents and society think that only science stream can bring you success. 1. Teacher in Primary and Secondary Schools
It's one of the most famous career options among students but it's not the only option. If you pursue English in your graduation and study hard, you can easily crack any exam for being a teacher in primary and secondary schools. Here, you have two options- Private Schools or Government Schools. For both, you have to complete your B.Ed too. Private schools provides handsome salary around 20000-60000, it depends on your experience, educational background and most importantly your spoken. 
In government sector, every state government organizes exams for recruiting teachers like TGT, PGT, Lt-Grade. You can also be a teacher in Central Government Schools by beating exams like KVS, NVS. Government provides a really good salary to teachers. I can say, it is one of the most peaceful career options in India.

2. Assistant Professor and Professor in Universities
Google some famous and best professions in India. You'll be shocked knowing that it's not IAS or PCS. Many firms believes that being a professor is the best profession in India. You would have a huge salary in your account and huger respect in your life. If you have another plans in your life, like being a politician or strategist of a political party, you can easily pursue it even being a professor. Because professors are supposed to be an intellectual and everybody wants to work with an intellectual. In India, professor gets highest salary around one lakh to two. Some universities also provide extra benefits and privileges. For being a professor, you complete your PG and PhD. Assistant professors are hired on the basis of MPhil too. 

3. Translator in Private or Government Sectors
This career option is so underrated in India. People don't consider it as a career option but I tell you, It's so cool to be a translator. You not only get great salary but also so much free time to do other things in life. Individual department calls for translator but Staff Selection Commission (SSC) also conducts an exam for the posts of translator in various government departments. And, I assure you, this exam is the only exam of SSC there is no competition at all. Salary and grade pay are equal as other posts of SSC. 

Private sector also needs a lot of translators for their work. It's a age of globalization and English is the international language and it's necessary to do business with foreign parties.

4. Mass Communication 
Mass Communication is a course that opens doors for you to become a journalist. It is one of the most favorite course among English Graduate. Literature you study in your B.A. aka graduation, helps you to know more about society, politics and norms and these topics are needed to become a good journalist. 

5. Content Writing and Blogging 
One of the most famous and unique career option for English Honors. It gives you great money as well as popularity. You are your own boss when you write content or blogs on your favorite topics. Some students wonder how can I write? I don't know how to write. I swear, I also didn't know. But, as you start learning, reading English Literature and Grammar, you somehow start writing and composing. Literature creates a sense of writing in you. Just start. 

6. Marketing and Public Relation 
If you can speak or write English Language, you can easily do marketing and public relation. Public Relation is growing rapidly in India. Every company needs a man/woman who can advertise their product, write their reports and can be the face of the company. B.A. hons in English, makes you the pro in marketing and public relation in terms of speaking and writing. An extra course or diploma in marketing and public relation after graduation will open hundreds of options for you. 

7. B.A. Hons in English is just a graduation 
In India, there are lots of exams for which the criteria are being a graduate. No matter you did B.A. and B.Sc and B.Com and whatever. If you are a graduate, you are eligible for almost every exam in India like UPSC, SSC CGL, Law, PCS and any other government exam. So, being a graduate in English hons makes you different and provides more options than anybody else.
